Hey Roy - It's not just about the iPad or any one product, it's about the interconnectedness that both Apple and Google weave into the experience. I do have faith, and a fondness for underdogs like Boxee. But making it easy for me to do lots of things that are inter-related is a pretty strong pull. So far I've resisted full immersion, preferring to play and test without the commitment. Ultimately, though, I'm not sure I'll be able to resist the force field.

I think you're confusing "Hot growth properties" with "the whole market". Selling 2 million iPads looks good to Wall St. but remember he sold 2 million items to 310 million people. (Contrast to 177 million laptops sold in 2009)

Google is certainly a huge index, but index isn't content. Microsoft was the last bunch to frighten everyone that they would take over the world from their unassailable platform monopoly; the web would have to be built to Microsoft standards (with FrontPage!) or nobody would see your web site from the unchallengable Microsoft browser.

The world is a rather large thing to put your arms around, though. Microsoft's best days are now behind it, and the spectre of them leveraging their position into pan-market dominance now looks kind of laughable.

The bigger Apple and/or Google get, the more reluctant others will be to partner with them and the more eager a significant chunk of the market will become for an alternative.

So have a little faith.
